4 kawaii things that you can make at home

When it comes to DIY, we often try to combine our love of DIY projects and creating with our hands with whatever has caught our eye lately. Lately, through personal style and fashion, home decor projects, and generally anything that makes us happy, we've noticed that we love kawaii culture! Things that are “kawaii” come from the Japanese subculture of fashion and style, which focuses on making everything so pretty and cute that you feel better, your day is better, and you smile. Since the artisans are making these items for us anyway, this seems like the perfect solution! That's why we've been on the hunt for all kinds of crafts and kawaii projects lately.

Here is the list of 4 kawaii things that you can make at home.

If you're as in love as we are, if not more, here are 15 of the best crafts, projects, and ideas we've found so far!

1. Hidden panda kawaii shelf.

If you're going to go to the trouble of making something from scratch, would you rather make something that is both decorative and practical to make the most of your time and effort? In our opinion, that's the best plan, and that's one of the reasons we love this adorable yet spacious panda idea, described step by step in Art y Salad en Casey magazine. They show you how to make a shelf for decorations, stationery, or toiletries that is enclosed and painted like an adorable kawaii panda, but also gives you extra space for the little things you need for sewing. We love the idea of keeping your desk and work spaces clean, but inviting at the same time!

2. Kawaii school supplies made from polymer clay.

Okay, we don't go to school anymore, which means we don't have to buy these “school supplies” in September, but since we work in an office and spend most of our days writing, we require these things year-round! That's one of the reasons we're so excited to embellish our materials and add a happy, kawaii tone to the common tools we use every day, even if we don't see them in class. Check out how Lisa's World used polymer clay to turn earplugs, pens, and needles into cute hand-painted foods with kawaii faces.

3. Velvet felt trinkets.

If you want to make something (kawaii papeterie) because it's a little novelty, just for fun. Would you rather use crafting as an opportunity to learn a new skill or work on a technique you've been trying to master for a while? Then maybe you're ready to practice your hand embroidery skills on, for example, this adorable velvet keychain described step by step on Deviant Art! They'll walk you through the process of making the felt.

4. Kawaii surprise box for kids.

Perhaps your kids got interested in kawaii style before you did, and you helped them look for something really simple to try to make something cute that looks like their favorite kind? We do this a lot with our younger kids, and we always consider it an added bonus when we find a project that's also an opportunity to ride a bike. That's why we love finding craft ideas that we can put our kids' favorite Kinder Surprise chocolate plastic boxes into! Here you'll see how 2 Cats & 1 Doll made helmets out of Kinder Surprise toy boxes, using only markers to create cute kawaii faces in a few simple steps.
